Submit a Film
If you wish to participate in the Official Selection with your film you need to submit it through one of the Platforms linked to below.
Our festival is dedicated to True Independent Films - films with a personal style that are self produced - not tied to big production companies, institutions or TV stations.
We first and foremost seek bravery, a lust to experiment and express using the medium of Film, regardless if the film maker is an amateur starting out or an established professional. Experimental, Fiction, Documentary, Animation and all sorts of genres – anything goes as long as the banner of Independence is held high. Attention in the selection process will be
given to artistic originality and creativity.
We charge a small fee for this, high enough not to be spammed by films and low enough to make sure it does not cripple film makers wishing to have their film considered. While we strive to screen as many films as we can, we cannot invite all films submitted and must make the decision of how many we can screen without it lowering the quality we offer to those we invite.
The program we present is the foundation for the festival and of great importance to us, as a festival we build our brand towards audience, industry and film makers with the selection we present – and our aim is to every year present a program of quality true independent films, all words of equal value.
During the period where our Call for Entries is open we collect submissions from all film makers wishing to participate. We spend between 10-12 weeks full time watching every film, evaluating it and then we sort in layers until we land in the final selection.
Many of the submitted films are not selected for the festival. It can be frustrating to be declined and not get to know why. However, it can also be frustrating submitting to a festival and be forced to pay a higher fee because it includes feedback you're not interested in.
We work diligently, with care and dedication when putting the program together and when it comes to feedback for the submissions we do the same thing. We therefore divide our categories so that feedback is separate from the submissions and is an in-depth review rather than a small note.
When we are finished we notify all who have submitted their works, both not selected and selected, and then we start with the preparations and communication with participants.
Participating at the event
Participating at the festival should be a valuable experience, and something film makers look forward to return to. To encourage and support this we provide accomodation to all selected film makers in Berlin for the Festival. And we have a category for previous participants where they have a cut blanche to screen their new films. For film makers not visiting the communication should be smooth and straight forward and we work to present and provide a quality coverage and promotion online too, so that everyone participating gets something out of the festival.
We also invite and pay for accomodation for film organizations attending the festival such as film critics, festivals, film clubs, producers etc that have focus on True Independent Cinema. All to make it a both friendly, relaxed and valuable experience for everyone attending.
So far we have screened hundreds of films from more than 50 different countries such as Brazil, Iran, USA, Russia, Sweden, Lebanon, Tunisia and of course Germany to name a few. We've also been blessed to have film makers visiting the festival from many of these countries.
We focus on the film makers in the core of the festival, to really establish a platform that isn't than just a "one and done" event, but rather the opposite where the first experience with screenings, meetings, networking and fun is just the first of many to come. We work to make it a festival film makers return to - to show their new works but also to meet up with others they met the first time around, to see what they have done - and to discover new films, meet new people to network and have fun with.
